To celebrate Golden Lane Estate’s 50th anniversary EXHIBIT devised The Super Estate Artists’ Residency Programme. The programme is inspired both by the optimism of Golden Lane’s modernist design, and the unique community it nurtures. In December 2008, EXHIBIT held an open-competition for creative responses to the estate and attracted over 70 international proposals from countries including Austria, Cyprus, Chile and Asia. A selection committee was formed from local residents, artists, designers, journalist and related academics. Over three stages a final 10 winning ideas were selected to be developed into a series of stimulating projects and activities to engage local communities and get inspired by the design legacy of the estate. These projects will be showcased in the gallery over a 20-month programme. Each of the 10 exhibitors will contribute one piece of artwork for the Estate’s cultural archive. Talks and other creative events will accompany the programme as the super estate heads towards its centenary.
